Coffee worth crossing town for.
An independent guide to the world’s best coffee shops. Every shop is rated in cups for what’s in the cup and how you’re treated — the vibe, the Wi-Fi and the price are here to help you choose. Our first city is Atlanta.
Cups are for the coffee.
Cups judge what’s in the cup, the craft behind it, and how you’re treated — across more than one visit. The room gets its own marks: vibe, work-friendliness, menu and price help you search, but never earn cups.
Selection
Worth a stop.
Good coffee made with care.
1 Cup
Worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Excellent coffee, reliably.
2 Cups
Worth a detour across town.
Exceptional coffee and hospitality.
3 Cups
Worth a dedicated trip.
Benchmark coffee — among the best anywhere.
The cup
The same test order every visit: a black coffee, a cortado, and matcha when it’s on the menu. Clean, sweet, well-textured, served at a drinkable temperature. It counts double.
Craft
What you can see from the counter: a named roaster, fresh roast dates, beans ground per order, shots pulled fresh, a clean steam wand, and a barista who knows the beans.
Hospitality
A prompt welcome, the right order, an honest recommendation when you ask, and a clean, calm space.
Consistency
No cups from a single visit. Three Cups takes repeat visits and a second inspector’s sign-off.
